interested ones in the congregation were asked to start saving now, as the cost of the flights would be their own responsibility.
the time frame for this preaching work is for a couple of weeks in may/june 2017. the applications are to be turned in this sunday.

From the news here you would think that the only people to receive assistance were JWs.
The Fiji government and other countries immediately pledged $ millions and all the other churches mucked in to help as you would expect.
The wealthy JW org simply parades its very begrudging charity and does so to enhance its own precious image. As John Free says they want the insurance claims back from the cyclone victims...they are out to profit from the goodwill and charity of the sheep who did the work. Some mean religion this!
what was it in the evolution of religion that got them so hung up about what people do with their genitalia?.
i mean, the (mis)use of genitalia is up there with murdering another human being in terms of badness.. and in the 21st century, we have a situation where in the jw religion, it's deemed as acceptable for three middle aged/old men to sit a teenage girl down and ask her the details of her use of her genitals.
to any normal person this is intrusive, completely inappropriate and bordering on deviancy.. why they so obsessed?.
I'm not so sure that religion in general is overly concerned with sex. The C of E on the whole seem pretty relaxed about it, although a bit exercised on the subject of openly practising gay clergy. However religious cults like JWs are obsessed with a pharisaical sense of precisely enforcing their own vision of what they want you to do in bed and with whom and how.
If cult leaders control your most private activities then they surely can control the rest of your life.

The JW religion comes from paganism.
Since they claim their doctrines to be Bible based, consequently Jehovah's Witnesses central doctrines are drawn from paganism. The very fact that the pre-Christian saviours were born on the shortest day and ascended to heaven at the spring equinox is a sure indicator of their mythical and astrological beginnings.
What makes sense for someone looking for a solid basis for belief; is to believe only in things for which satisfactory evidence exists.
The rest of 'information' like religious doctrines are not worth the paper they are written on.

now that i read the watchtower interpretation of revelation without my jw spectacles on, it's laughable that they come to these conclusions..
The Guardians Of the Doctrines aka the Watchtower GB are up a creek without a paddle with this and any other Bible interpretation. They have never got any prediction right. Their immortal truths hardly last a generation, sometimes it is only a handful of years before their teaching is seen to be transparently flawed.
They have no credibility...so what is the point of ever listening to anything the governing body of Jehovah's Witnesses says?
i'm sure that most longer term readers on this list know that the use of the number in the revelation was a 'code' using the jewish concept that assigned number values to the letters of the hebrew alphabet.. a promoter of modern judaism ( dr. eliyahu lizorkin-eyzeneberg) explains:.
today gematria is well-known as a jewish interpretive method that assigns numerical values of hebrew letters to words, phrases and/or sentences.
then, by adding them together, seeks to determine their deeper meaning.
FTS, the subject of gematria is important in understanding how irrational certain religious believers think. It is very well regarded in some circles as I am aware from my Jewish clients.
The fact is that in many languages alphabetic characters double up as numerals. Since the relationships are entirely arbitrary, apart from by chance, they can be no connection of the numerical value of words containing numbers to the meaning of those words.
This is the rational approach but most religious people are by definition superstitious and therefore having already granted the Bible to be sacred are not content with that, they must see something further in their holy writings.
With this superstition in mind, I meant to post earlier on the Hebrew word for "thou" and "thee" which is "antah" (pron. an-taw). I think it contains an important JW hidden 'truth'.
The use of thou" as a pronoun in the singular, is now almost dead in English speech (except in parts of Yorkshire where it is usually pronounced "tha." When my uncle was young, he rather too politely asked someone for the lavatory in Wakefield and was met with the reply "Dost tha mean shit-house lad?") but I digress.
However in the Bible the word you in the singular, "antah" is used conspicuously in the very late book of Daniel written only one and a half centuries before the Common Era.
The book of Daniel is irresistible for those trying to divine hidden meanings regarding "the time of the end". If you were into esoteric meanings and masonry in the nineteenth century, like Russell was, it is likely you would be confronted by the forceful use of the word "antah" in chapter 2 to 6 of Daniel, where it is found twelve times with repetition for emphasis.
The word "thou" in Hebrew also signifies 607.
What thinkest thou? I'm certain that Fred Franz and his Jewish associates would have been convinced.

Just one question: If Jehovah's Witnesses are the only religion inspired and authorised by God, why is it that in the one hundred and thirty seven years of Watchtower information, that they have never once got any of their many date predictions come true?

And 19th century nonsense was based on fourth century Roman nonsense which in turn was drawn from first century anti Gnosticism developed from Greek thinking and Jewish monotheism and messianic triumphalism nonsense and before that pure pagan son of Sun God saviour nonsense characters who like Jesus, all went to heaven at the spring equinox.
